Jainee Turla and Jason Gupo from IV-Einstein were elected as child city officers during the Makati Boys and Girls Week held in Makati from October 26 to 28.
Makati Boys and Girls Week is an event that serves to expand the youth's knowledge about the responsibilities of government officers and at the same time develop their leadership skills through various seminars and activities.
Jainee Turla and Jason Gupo were elected Child City Mayor and Child City Councilor, respectively.
A total of 16 schools located in Makati participated in the event, 10 public and 6 private. There were 2 representatives per school, with one representative having to be the Student Council President.
Other officers include Catherine Modesto from San Antonio National High School as Child Vice Mayor, Katrina Tiambeng from Colegio de San Agustin as Child City Administrator, Sam Tamayo from Colegio de Santa Rosa as Child City Treasurer, Jhazmine Calo from Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School as Child City Personnel Officer, Jessica Orense from Colegio de San Agustin as Child City Accountant, Jacel Villanueva from Guadalupe Catholic School as Child City Press Officer, Minette Faye Rolle from San Isidro National High School as Child City Engineer, Leslie Lim from Makati Hope Christian School as Child City Health Officer, Angelyn Maybituin from Makati High School as Child City Secretary, Jeorgia Baluyot from Guadalupe Catholic School as Child City Budget Officer, William Muassab form Makati Hope Christian School as Child City Urban Development Officer, Faye Ingrid Perez from Colegio de Santa Rosa as Child CIty General Services Officer, and Fritz Masiglat from Don Bosco Technical Institute as Child City Assessor.
There were 18 elected child councilors.
On the first day, the students got to know each other and various seminars on topics such as children's rights, functions of the city government, youth leadership, cultural preservation, and environment protection were held.
On the second day seminars continued and elections were held. During the elections each person had to give a speech on why they should be elected. Nominees for Mayor and Vice Mayor could be asked questions.
The events on the first and second day happened at Museo ng Makati.
On the third day, the students toured at Intramuros, Ayala Museum, Lights and Sounds Museum, Casa Manila, and Filipinas Heritage Library.
Awarding was held on November 3.
On November 3 the students also practiced their duty as child city officers at Makati City Hall.
"For me, it was a very thrilling experience," said Gupo, Child City Councilor. "I learned a lot and I got to meet many new friends."
