Hovve Jan Dominic C Teves from IV-Einstein was given a High Distinction award for scoring between 98 and 99.7 percent at the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC).
The AMC, which is administered by the non-profit Australian Mathematics Trusts, is a contest that aims to highlight the importance of the sub ject mathematics, allow students to discover their talent in mathematics and provide resources for the classroom.
In the competition high school students are asked to solve 30 problems in 75 minutes. The questions are arranged in increasing order of difficulty. Answers are recorded on a mark-sense sheet processed by the computer.
Three testing centers were conducted in Manila and 18 outside NCR.
MTG President Simon L Chua pointed out that the number of AMC participants who are Filipino continue to grow each year, with the number of participants from the Philippines this year reaching 3,650.
All over the world there were around 300,00 contestants from at least 40 countries.
Adrian Reginald Sy was awarded a medal and the Peter O'Halloran Certificate, the highest AMC award, for garnering a perfect score.
Three Filipino students were awarded the AMC medal and seven students were awarded the High Distinction awards for getting a score of at least 99.7 percent.
Teves was one of 50 students who got High Distinction awards for scoring between 98 and 99.7 percent.
Prudence Awards were also given to 10 students.
Awarding was held on October 31 at the Century Seafood Restaurant, Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila.
