This was quoted by our own principal Dr Divinelinda Dela Cruz during the 156 th General Assembly of the Foundation of Upgrading the Standards of Education (FUSE). Dr Dela Cruz spoke on the best practices in sciences, along with Dr Annie Gallardo of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Jonathan Derez of the Manila Science High School. The said assembly was organized by Dr Lucio Tan, Sen. Edgardo Angara and Rep Salvador Escudero III to promote the upgrade in Science, English and Mathematics Education.
The Makati Science High School has been consistently No. 1 in national examinations since 2005 up to 2009, except in 2006 when it plunged to No. 5.
“That’s because we lost 30 of our best teachers to China,” explained Dr Dela Cruz. However, Dr Dela Cruz had a plan for this because she launched a training program for new science teachers, which paid off immediately by leading the school to the top in national examinations again.
Dr Dela Cruz also cited the strong performances of the school in Robotics, saying that they overcome problems in resources by just tapping Lego for equipment and by organizing students into a robotics club led by Mr Ferrer and Mr Andrian Mesa. The Makati Science High School teams have won awards in World Robotic Olympiads in Singapore, China and Taiwan almost every year since 2005.
Nevertheless, the students still have a hard time preparing to once again top the National Achievement Test.
