After passing a rigorous competition participated by outstanding secondary school teachers from around the world, Mr. Alixander Haban Escote, English Language Department Teacher III, was given a scholarship grant for the International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) in Alabama and in Washington, D.C., United States of America.
Among the 12 recipients from the Philippines, Mr. Escote will attend a semester-long professional development program in the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama, which will offer courses, intensive trainings and seminars. Moreover, he will also be arranged to an internship placement at a US secondary school from January 5 to May 20, 2010.
The scholarship grant will consist of a five-month academic program in American universities that will offer course works, intensive trainings, and seminars in lesson planning, curriculum development and teaching strategies and methodologies, as well as teacher leadership and the use of information and communication in education.
First started in 2005 in the world and 2009 in the Philippines, the ILEP is an international fellowship program of the US Department of State-Bureau of education and Cultural Affairs (BECA) in cooperation with the International Research and Exchanges Board and the Philippine-American Educational Foundation, the Fulbright Commission in the Philippines.
The ILEP fellowship program will provide 84 international teachers from all around the world the opportunity to attend audit classes and specialized trainings and seminars in the field of education in American universities and to participate in practical internship programs in American high schools.
The program will provide the international teachers with unique opportunities to enhance their teaching skills, to increase their potential and expertise in their subject area and to enhance their knowledge about the land of milk and honey.
