EPED MATH CHALLENGE

            In the recently concluded 2010 Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge, Makati Science High School did not only win the said competition but they also ruled the stage. They bagged several awards and dominated the competitions both in the individual written test held last January 31 at Stella Maris College and in the team oral contest held last February 18 at Manila Science High School for the sectoral level-category B, participated by all science high schools in the region.

            In the written category, first years Anjanette Canales and Mark Awingan took the second and tenth place respectively. On the other hand, sophomores Hovve Jan Dominic Teves, Andrew Joelle Caguntas, and John Carlo Caranguian took the third, fifth and ninth place respectively. Kirven Molas, Ananias Quipit Jr., Samantha Grace Cruz, Joel Tabago, and Maureen Joy Gulapa comprised the third years who won the third, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth places. While, the senior winners were Adam Dalida, Ronniel Bequio and Joanne Jennifer Tan who won the second, fifth and seventh place respectively.

            In the oral category, the sophomore team composed of Caguntas, Teves, and Mikael Ochiai landed in the second place, with Manila Science High School and Valenzuela Science High School being the first and third places respectively.

            The third year team composed of Molas, Quipit, and Tabago was crowned the champion, with Quezon Science High School and Manila Science High School trailing behind.

            The fourth year team composed of Bequio, and Tan, also bagged the top spot, trailing behind Quezon Science during the easy and average rounds, but catching up to get the gold at the last minute in the difficult round, with Quezon Science and Valenzuela Science landing in the second and third places respectively.

            On the other hand, Paranaque Science High School, Valenzuela Science High School, and Muntinlupa Science High School land the first, second, and third spots respectively for the first year team contest.

            All contestants had to endure long hours of training sessions with their trainers prior to the contest dates, including Mrs. Desiree Joy Gumapac for the first year, Mrs. Editha Cuenco for the second year, Mr. Ralmond Roca for the third year, and Mr. Mark Anthony Vidallo for the fourth year.

            The awarding and closing ceremonies for both the individual and team categories were held at the same place and on the same date as the team oral competitions.
